Dr. Matter has over fifteen years of experience providing psychotherapy/counseling in diverse clinical settings. When working with patients, Dr. Matter uses a variety of theories and techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and Adlerian psychology. Dr. Matter also has specialized training in clinical hypnosis, which can be used to aid the psychotherapy process or used to address health related issues. A cornerstone of Dr. Matter’s philosophy of counseling is encouraging individuals to view their life situation as changeable, and then identifying realistic steps which promote positive change, health and well-being.

As a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, I support and promote mental health by providing therapy for people of all ages.  I work with individuals, couples, and families in a collaborative manner to address the challenges they are facing.  In particular, I work with individuals who experience symptoms from trauma/PTSD, anxiety, anger, depression, addictions, and eating disorders.  I also help people to improve their self-image, manage life stressors, and work through relationship issues.  I work with people from all walks of life, including the LGBTQ community. I have a special interest in working with adolescents and young adults.

I use a variety of therapeutic methods and techniques depending on the client's needs.  Overall, my therapeutic style is influenced by client centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, narrative therapy, and principles from behavioral therapy and mindfulness.
